Networking groups are everywhere, they come in all different shapes and sizes, but did you know small group fitness facilities is one of the best kept secrets when it comes to networking?
Since running small fitness facilities, I’ve noticed a huge similarity between members of my gyms and networking events I’ve been to.
Much like attending a networking group, at first people can feel a bit nervous and anxious, however in an encouraging environment where people champion each other, you start building friendships with people and discussing life, careers and business.
I constantly see referrals and recommendations between members in my group sessions who have formed bonds and trust while exercising.
How often do you see “Does anybody know a...” on local community groups?
The exact same questions get asked all the time in our facilities all the time and if we were a specific referral organisation, we would have a lot of “Thank you for the business” from referrals and recommendations that have taken place in our facilities.
This is because fitness is an organic setting in which relationships and trust is formed.
Just like most networking groups teach you, here are five tips to maximise the opportunities you can have from joining a gym like ours.
- Turn up regularly - Members certainly won’t know what you do if you are never there.
- Farm don’t hunt - Get to know other members first and be patient, don’t try selling to them on the first meeting.
- Attend sessions at different times of day - This will enable you to meet more members.
- Be patient - Rome wasn’t built in day and neither are relationships, you need time to build trust.
- Attend the social events - This is the best time when people will learn more about each other and will present those opportunities you want.
